Our Scale fly-in and Swap Meet is Sunday, June 23rd, 2019. Open to all r/c pilots with proof of current MAAC membership. Field opens at 0930 hrs. Pilots' meeting at 1000 hrs. $5.00 admission.
In keeping with the scale theme, the swap meet will be for scale aircraft and accessories only.
Important! This year we are doing the competition differently to encourage builders to display your hard work. We will run 2 tiers for the judging. Tier 1 is for "scratch built or kit built" aircraft and Tier 2 will be for "ready made" aircraft. The categories in each tier will be:
A: World War I (military)
B: World War II (military)
C: Golden Era (1919-1939 military or civilian)
D: Civilian (post 1939)
F: Experimental (must be modeled on a real aircraft)
The winner of each category in both tiers will get a highly coveted Event Winner Trophy plus a ticket for the raffle draw. The winners of Tier 2 only will be judged for a "Best of Show" title and will win the grand prize 55" Great Planes F4U Corsair ARF!
Tier 1 is reserved for only scratch-built models, and for highly-modified pre-shaped models with custom complete paint/covering and numerous scale enhancements.
The following may compete in Tier 1:
a. Models scratch-built from raw materials.
b. Models built from an uncovered balsa kit.
c. Models whose shape is purchased but suitably enhanced. E.g.
* A pre-shaped foam model that came either completely blank in colour, or had been completely painted and very significantly enhanced.
* A balsa ARF model that has been completely re-skinned and significantly enhanced.
* A very bare scale heli fuselage that needed painting and significant enhancement.
Significant enhancements for a Tier 1 pre-shaped model MUST include at least 3 elements of scale detail from the following:
§ Windows, sliding canopy, or working hatches.
§ Hand-painted pilot (even if the shape was purchased).
§ Dashboard instruments (even if they were pre-printed).
§ Other cockpit details (e.g. stick, throttle, seat, ejection seat).
§ Engine and fuselage vents that are actually open. § Exhaust pipes that are actually open. § Door knobs.
§ Pitot tube.
§ Gas caps.
§ Guns (if a war-bird), and other ordinance.
§ Very scale wheels and tires.
§ Builder-designed decals, or custom-painted insignia.
§ Control surface trim tabs.
§ Working lights.
§ Much improved engine detail.
§ Other details approved by the judges or registration desk.
